Wednesday Season 2 (201)
The American series *Wednesday*, a blend of horror and supernatural comedy, draws inspiration from the iconic Wednesday Addams character from *The Addams Family*. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, it features Jenna Ortega in the lead role, accompanied by a prominent cast that includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen and Christina Ricci. Tim Burton, who directed four of the eight episodes and also served as an executive producer, brings his signature visual style to the narrative.
The plot follows Wednesday as she attempts to solve a monster-related mystery at her school. Interestingly, Burton was previously linked to other projects related to *The Addams Family*: He declined to direct the 1991 film and worked on a stop-motion animated film that never came to fruition. In October 2020, it was announced that he would be directing this series, which was later acquired by Netflix.
The filming took place in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022. *Wednesday* officially premiered on November 16, 2022 and arrived on Netflix on November 23, receiving mostly positive reviews. Jenna Ortega’s performance was particularly praised, though some critics pointed out certain similarities to The CW’s youth dramas. Just two weeks into its premiere, it became the third most-watched English series in Netflix history.
